Sg.Lembing is located about 42 km northwest of Kuantan, Pahang Malaysia. Sungai Lembing is an underground tin mine town developed and set up by the British in 1880s with infrastructure such as roads, electricity, schools, bungalows, an office, warehouse, stores and even a hospital. Sungai Lembing in fact boasted itself is having the second richest tin deposit in the world and the biggest underground tin mine in the world during their heyday with the total tunnel length of 322 km and the depths of its subterranean tunnels between 610 m and 700 m, it was once the richest town in Pahang, known as El Dorado of the East.
The town straddles the river of Sg.Kenau, the main street on the right bank is split by an avenue of majestic trees. Many of the wooden shoplots are closed and people are moving away after the pit mines were closed in 1986 due to high operational cost and world tin price collapsed. The town was then left forgotten, its glory years merely a distant
memory, until it was developed as a tourist attraction in year 2003 with its rich natural and cultural resources.

The museum housed in an old British verticular colonial architecture featured bungalow once used by the mining officers highlighting various exhibits and artifacts that helped shaped the town's history.

THE MINES is partially refurbished and opened for visitors in January 2013. The mine is located beneath a tropical rainforest and is preserved in it most natural and original settings where visitors be able to experience a unique cooling climate in the tunnels.

The tour start with a 80m short battery powered tram ride then the expedition will takes approximately an hour to complete the tour on foot.

It's worth driving all the way from Malacca to check out this place ~ THE MINES...The longest and deepest underground tin mines in the world.
